Speaker

Juan F. Yepes DDS, MD, MPH, MS, DrPH is a full professor in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at Indiana University School of Dentistry and an attending at Riley Children Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Juan F. is also a clinical professor at the University at Buffalo. Juan F. is a dentist (DDS) and a physician (MD) from Javeriana University at Bogotá, Colombia.

In 1999, Juan F. moved to the USA and attended the University of Iowa and the University of Pennsylvania where he completed a fellowship and residency in Radiology and Oral Medicine respectively in 2002 and 2004.

In 2006, Juan F. completed a Master in Public Health (MPH), and in 2011 a Doctoral Degree in Public Health (DrPH) both with emphasis in Epidemiology at the University of Kentucky College of Public Health. In 2008, Juan completed a residency program in Dental Public Health at University of Texas, Baylor College of Dentistry.

Finally, Juan F. completed a residency program and a master in pediatric dentistry at the University of Kentucky in 2012. Juan F. is board-certified by the American Boards of Pediatric Dentistry, Oral Medicine, and Dental Public Health. He is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, American Academy of Oral Medicine, American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Indiana Dental Association, and American Dental Association.

Juan F. is a fellow in dental surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh. He is a member of the editorial board of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, and Oral Radiology and the associate editor of the Journal of the American Dental Association.

NEW FRONTIERS IN DENTAL MATERIALS TO USE IN THE PEDIATRIC PATIENT

This lecture will provide to the attendee with the most up-to-date information regarding the fascinating field of restorative dentistry in children and adolescents. The seminar will use casepresentation as the learning and discussion format and will cover the entire spectrum of restorative dentistry in the pediatric dentistry with special emphasis in new materials available for the dentist. After attending this seminar, the participant will be able to:

    • Understand the indications and criteria for the use of dental materials in the pediatric patient
    • Learn the most updated information about silver diamine fluoride

PEDIATRIC ORAL PATHOLOGY: FROM SOFT TISSUE LESIONS TO CANKER SORES

This seminar will provide to the attendee with the most up-to-date information regarding the
fascinating and emerging field of oral pathology in pediatric dentistry. The seminar will use casepresentation as the learning and discussion format and will cover the entire spectrum of the most common oral soft tissue lesions in infants, children, and adolescents.

After attending this seminar, the participant will be able to:

    • Understand the importance of “building” a differential diagnosis based on the clinical presentation of oral lesions
    • Learn the most common soft tissue lesions in infants, children, and adolescents
    • Learn the most updated treatment for some of the most common oral conditions besides gingivitis and dental caries

AFTERNOON HANDS-ON COURSE

(Morning lecture required to attend afternoon hands-on course) (If you attend both morning and afternoon, you will receive 7.5 hrs. AGD Pedo Participation Credit) (IDBE pending final approval)

PEDIATRIC RADIOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION

This hands-on course will provide to the attendee the most common radiographic lesions that are presented in infants, children, and adolescents. The course will use case-presentation as the learning and discussion format and will cover the entire spectrum of oral radiology in pediatric dentistry.

After attending this hands-on, the participant will be able to:

    • Understand the importance of “building” a differential interpretation in radiology
    • Learn the most common radiographic lesions in infants, children, and adolescents.

MORNING LECTURE

OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

This lecture will provide to the attendee with the most up-to-date information regarding the fascinating and emerging field of sleep apnea in children and adolescents. The seminar will use case-presentation as the learning and discussion format and will cover the entire spectrum of sleep apnea in children and adolescents and the dentist role.

After attending this seminar, the participant will be able to:

    • Understand the fundamentals of sleep apnea diagnosis
    • Learn the most updated treatment of sleep apnea in children
    • Learn the role of the dentist in the identification and treatment of children with sleep apnea

FUNDAMENTALS OF RADIATION SAFETY FOR ORTHODONTIST

This lecture will provide to the attendee the most updated concepts in radiation safety in the dental office. The use of hand-held x-ray devices, CBCT, lead apron, etc., are some of the topics that this lecture will cover.

After attending this seminar, the participant will be able to:

    • Learn the most critical implications of the use of radiation in the dental office
    • Understand the importance of radiation safety in the practice of dentistry with children and adolescents

AFTERNOON HANDS-ON COURSE

(Morning lecture required to attend afternoon hands-on course) (If you attend both morning and afternoon, you
will receive 8.0 hrs. AGD Ortho Participation Credit) (IDBE pending final approval)

RADIOGRAPHIC INTERPRETATION FOR INCLUDING CBCT

This hands-on course will provide to the attendee the most common radiographic lesions that are presented
in orthodontic patients. The course will use case presentation as the learning and discussion format and will cover the entire spectrum of oral radiology in pediatric dentistry.

After attending this hands-on, the participant will be able to:

    • Understand the importance of “building” a differential interpretation in radiology
    • Review common findings in radiographs ordered by orthodontist
    • Learn the fundamentals of CBCT interpretation
    • Learn the most common radiographic lesions in orthodontic patients

If you attend the entire 2 day course, you will receive 7.5 hrs AGD Pediatric (subject code 430) Participation Credit and 8.0 hrs. AGD Orthodontic (subject code 370) Participation Credit. Additional hours of participation credit may be earned by presenting a clinical homework assignment after the course and presenting in October of 2023. There is an additional fee of $500 if you are not in the IAGD Masterack).
